Canggu is four or five villages that grew into each other. They are not interchangeable, so here is what each one is actually for.

Berawa

Coffee, a wine shop, and the beach-club end of the coast. Busy from ten.
Batu Bolong

The surf break most people mean when they say Canggu. Go at low tide, early.
Pererenan
15 min
Quieter, better food, and rice still growing between the buildings.
Seminyak
20 min
Larger shops and the older restaurants. Worth an evening, not a day.
Ubud
45 min
Inland and several degrees cooler. Better as a night away than a round trip.

03 — GETTING HERE

From the airport
Forty-five minutes outside peak hours and closer to ninety between five and seven. Pickup is included on stays of three nights or more; otherwise it is IDR 350,000 each way. Send the flight number and someone will be at arrivals holding your name.
By car
The lane takes one car at a time and there is parking for two inside the wall. A driver who has not been before should be told the villa sits behind the second concrete screen, not the first.
By scooter
The fastest way to move around Canggu by a wide margin. We deliver one to the villa for IDR 90,000 a day with two helmets. An international licence covers you; nothing else does.
On foot
Twenty minutes to Berawa beach along the lane and then the main road, which has no pavement for the last stretch. Fine in daylight, less so after it.
